For all those thinking about joining a GYM, Club Lime is having an open day this weekend from 10am till 5pm, Saturday and Sunday. So get in there and try out the gear. There are some great deals on offer too. But expect it to be busy, and if you’re keen for a class get in early. Here is the timetable (for Tuggeranong):

Lime light

Apart from my arms feeling like a spider sprayed by Mortein ;), Club Lime is going great. I had a session of weights on Saturday and a solid workout last night. Kendra has been encouraging me to do body pump, I had never done a class before (apart from RPM/Spin) but I must admit it was pretty good. This was basically a full body workout and I was feeling pretty unco. But Andy was doing a great job making sure I was doing it right, and giving pointers throughout the class. This was one thing I have found at Club Lime that I have not found at others (I have been to a few), and that was the instructors are fantastic. Even out in the large (and I mean large) weights area there was always someone friendly to ask for help. So thanks guys, I definitely don’t want any injury’s at this stage.

I can really see the benefit of cross training. Really MTB racing is a full body workout and it takes a huge toll on the body especially during 24’s and there is no way you can really ride for 24 hours straight without it being in a race. Training and focusing on hard work in specific areas really pays off (from my experience). Fenner’s interval’s combined with specific weights should be a great combination. If I can remove some upper pain during racing I will be faster for sure.

So at this point in time feeling like a bit of a GYM gumby, I am sure I will pick it up quickly. Like all things there is a steep learning curve, and you just have to stick at it till it comes together. Keep working on those weakness’s I say.

Things are happening

Well, the past week there has been a lot going on. I am gladly now onto my recovery week after 3 weeks on, where I was improving every week and increasing my load, so training wise I am happy. I have also scored a sponsorship with Club Lime; this is great as I know my biggest weakness is upper body strength. Upper body strength is an area we all tend to forget about and get lazy with, so no doubt the guy’s there should whip me into shape in all the right spots. Hopefully I won’t be so lazy on the bike, and increase my skill level. There GYM facilities are great, lots of room, plenty of machines, lots of classes, shower’s, steam room, check them out at: http://www.clublime.com.au/

I have set myself some new goals, and funny enough it just seemed to fall into place. Here are some target races for me:

The Angry Doctor at Mogo. A great 100k race with lots of fun tracks to be had. Looking forward to riding with the guys in this one, it will be good to have some friendly competition between mates.

The Highland fling, which I really still have not decided to do the 100k or 100mile. It will be great whichever I choose, I just don’t know if I should take it too seriously with the Kona fairly close.

The Kona 24 hour in Melbourne, solo. This is one event I am keen to do. It has 3 tracks that you race on for periods of time, so it should keep things interesting. Heading there with the McAvoy’s it shall be a big weekend for sure.

I still have not decided yet about the Scott, Kendra will be in a 6 MumNut team, so a step up from the Mont for her with a harder track. As for me, I might enter solo and just roll around socially riding when I want with whoever I choose. Who knows but so far that sounds fun to me.

I am also planning on doing ore of the CORC XC race’s and maybe the 8 hour working week in Canberra, but we will see, eye’s on the Worlds for now.

Brindies run, Warks road, Mt Corree, and Two sticks.

Saturday, Jase and I had a ride in the Brindies; it was a perfect day for it. We parked the car near Uriarra homestead and headed up Warks road this was a nice steady climb that just kept going, and going, it was perfect to keep warm in the chilly temp. I have to say it was really nice scenery, there is nothing like getting out a doing a bike ride like this.

We got up and crossed Brindabella road and rode on to Corree. I must admit it is pretty intimidating riding up to Corree looking at the steep sides. But we were having a ball on the undulating hills leading up to it and I was glad for the distraction. We got to the turn off for the climb, Jase had told me it was tough, and I did think I yeah I have done some good climbs this won’t be so bad. I was wrong it took us just under 30min from the turn off on a really rocky, steep, relentless trail. I kept thinking on the way up it has to end soon, it has to end soon; I was hurting trying to ride over rocks, and picking good lines. Jase was behind me I was hoping I was not going to put a foot down. I noticed Jase fall back a bit, I did think, man I hope he put a foot down, yeah good mate I am aren’t I ;). I kept going ½ thinking yeah I hope I’m 1 up on him, but the climb just kept coming. Near the top, I could see the end I stepped up onto a rough concrete section, I got over that. Then the last little bit covered in rocks, I was tired, lost focus, picked the wrong line, and the front wheel turned too far and that was it, foot down. I rode the rest but as Jase confirmed at the top it was 1 down each. Next time I will master it for sure ;).

At this stage of the ride I was really enjoying it, I felt like I was a million miles away from work, my mind was just about the ride it was great. Then I looked at the view, it was huge you could see…. my work. We were along way away, and with the nice clear day we had the best view it was amazing. With a quick bite to eat we were heading for the run down.

The run down from Corree was arm pumping rough, it was great. Picking good lines, keeping the speed up, bouncing here and there it was lots of fun. Then we were back onto two sticks heading back down to the car. Still 25 odd k’s to go and mostly down hill we were having fun. We even overtook a 4bee it was all good.

I got to say after the previous weekend with riding in the cold, windy, rain on Saturday and the trainer on Sunday, I needing this ride to get some motivation back into my riding. This ride was perfect. It really lifted me up and put me back to where I should be at with my riding. So thanks Jase it was awesome. Next time we will keep our feet on the pedals the whole way ;).
